Burn, treat mosquito bites,... these are just a few of the typical summer ailments that come back every year.
01 Heat rash
Those coming back from a vacation to tropical regions or the desert can suffer from heat rash, also known as sweat pimples. This rash appears in hot and humid conditions.
Since heat and moisture are the cause of sweat pimples, it is important to avoid them:
- Wear light and light clothing.
- Make sure there is enough ventilation. This is especially important for small children and babies. Therefore, do not place the cot next to the heater.
- Do not exercise intensively without air conditioning.
- Avoid highly perfumed products.
Still suffering from heat rash? Your skin needs cooling: apply cold compresses or use cooling talcum powder. You can apply a cooling gel or cortisone cream to relieve itching.
02 Heel cracks
Hot weather and sun exposure can lead to dehydration due to excessive sweating. This, combined with the open shoes that we wear more often in the summer, ensures that our feet lose moisture and dry out more quickly. So it's no wonder that heel cracks are a common summer ailment.
Yes, you can recognize it by the hard, dry skin around the edge of the heel. The heels may look discolored with white cracks or vertical cracks.
You may have guessed it, but hydration is essential. Use a moisturizer or lotion that is suitable for the feet and apply it after showering. Repeat this daily.
03 Strawberry legs (= razor bumps or ingrown hair)
You can recognize strawberry legs by the small grey, brown or pink dots on your legs. These are caused by shaving, where hair follicles become inflamed or hairs grow in. What is the best way to depilate to get smooth legs without razor bumps?
- If you opt for the classic razor blade, it is important to always shave in the direction of the hair and to use a sharp blade. Blunt blades are more likely to cause inflammation, so make sure you replace the blade regularly. Shaving cream is not necessarily a must, but moisturize properly afterwards.
- Do you want smooth legs for longer? Then you can opt for wax. For the smoothest result, apply the resin in the direction of hair growth. Delete is done in the opposite direction.
- Epilation has the same long-lasting effect as waxing. The right technique is essential here: Make sure the skin is clean and dry before you start. Hold the epilator at a 90-degree angle to the skin and slowly move it against the direction of hair growth. Tighten the skin slightly to better grip the hair.
- Depilatory cream, does that really work? Yes, because the cream breaks down the hair, as it were. However, it is important to follow the instructions, such as the areas for which the cream can be used, carefully and not to exceed the waiting time. So that you damage the skin unnecessarily.
04 Abrasive thighs
You know it, the shorts and dresses that make bare thighs rub together. If you also perspire, the skin is moist and therefore extra vulnerable. This can cause irritation and abrasions in the skin.
As a precautionary measure, many put some deodorant between their legs. We recommend choosing a slightly milder alternative.
- A nourishing cream will help prevent the thighs from rubbing against each other. Your upper thighs will glide smoothly side by side.
- Talcum powder, on the other hand, is ideal for keeping the skin dry so that it is less fragile.
- In case of painful, serious wounds, always consult a doctor.
